The ATI Radeon HD 4870 upgrade—which should be shipping any day now—is an excellent option, though it’s limited to 512MB of memory and can’t connect two 30″ Cinema Displays without a costly adapter. For Mac Pro users with serious graphics needs, NVIDIA is gearing up to give you what your heart desires.

Survey: iPhone ranks highest among smartphone buyers

Apple is tops when it comes to consumer satisfaction among smartphone manufacturers, according to the latest J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Wireless Consumer Smartphone Customer Satisfaction Study and the 2009 Wireless Traditional Mobile Phone Satisfaction Study. Apple managed to score a 791 on a 1,000 point scale, performing well in areas of ease of use, operating system, features, and physical design.

Both the Budget Box and Hot Rod have excellent choices from Intel and AMD available in the CPU and motherboard selection, running the gamut from low- to high-end. Microsoft is planning to launch an iPhone rival as early as 2010, according to a new rumor. The project is supposedly code-named “Pink” and aims to extend Windows Mobile with new features and capabilities, as well as make use of the Windows Marketplace for Mobile. Microsoft, for its part, would not confirm the rumor when contacted about it by Ars.
